May 2024 – Conference time!

Elisabeth received an invitation to deliver a plenary lecture at the Protistology Nordics Meeting in Uppsala, Sweden, where she presented the most recent findings from our lab, focusing on the extremely dynamic evolution of plastids in the dinoflagellate family Kareniaceae. At the same time, Kacper and Kazuya presented their work at the 53rd Jirovec’s Protozoological Days in Karlova Studánka in the Czech Republic.

April 2024 – The quest for Mediterranean dinoflagellates continues! 

Our next stop was the TREC Supersite in Napoli at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, where Elisabeth and Kazuya developed a protocol for sorting cells of kleptoplastidic dinoflagellates using the COPAS Vision Imaging sorter in the EMBL Advanced Mobile Lab. Furthermore, we prepared one of our dinoflagellate cultures for ultrastructural imaging with expansion microscopy with the help of the PlanExM Team!

March 2024 – The spring sampling season has begun!

The spring sampling season has begun! Our first stop this year was the TREC Supersite in Barcelona at the Institut de Ciències de Mar, where Elisabeth and Kazuya were isolating single cells of dinoflagellate lineages carrying unusual plastids for cultivation and single-cell transcriptomics and had the possibility to directly image these dinoflagellate via confocal microscopy in the EMBL Advanced Mobile Lab!
